The Salon Nautico de Barcelona 2017 hangs the “sold out” sign
A little less than a month after its celebration (from 11 to 15 October), the Barcelona International Boat Show has registered the full occupation and already has 100% of the exhibition space foreseen contracted. In its 56th edition, it will occupy more than 54,000 m2 gross distributed between the docks of Spain and the Fusta of Port Vell and continues growing in participating companies and boats exposed in the floating sample and on land. In total, about 700 ships will be exhibited and will have the main firms in the sector.
The good pace of commercialization has allowed to hang the “sold out” cartel, reaffirming its position as the main showcase for the sports and recreational nautical industry in Spain. In this call, the show organized by Fira de Barcelona will exceed 270 exhibitors, including the main companies in the national and international nautical sector such as Beneteau, Jeanneau, CNB-Lagoon, Marina Estrella, Sunseeker, Touron, Yamaha or Zodiac.
The space provided for the floating sample will be complete with more than 170 sail and a motor of more than 8 meters in length, highlighting this year the offer of catamarans with more than 20 units on display. On land, more than 600 smaller boats and tires, as well as the latest electronics products, paintings, velerías, trailers and services will be exhibited. In total, the International Boat Show will have about 700 boats on display.
According to the director of the International Boat Show in Barcelona, Jordi Freixas, “the interest and response of exhibiting companies point to greater optimism in the sector and will make us again have a great nautical offer, which together with all the activities we are preparing make us the key meeting point where to do business, learn the latest news and share our passion for the sea.
In this sense, the 56 edition of the hall will boost more than ever its most professional side promoting the first Professional Meetings. An agenda of meetings between exhibitors and visitors that will have a space to establish relationships between them and offer their products and services with the aim of opening new markets and finding new partners. At the moment, more than 200 participants have already signed up. Also, the second edition of the Entrepreneurs and Startups will be held, which will be extended to all the days of the hall, with some twenty companies participating. These include apps for nautical services, a reserve portal for rental boats, a detachable and lightweight kaiac, and even magnetized tableware to navigate without worry.
A rising sector
The 2017 edition of the Barcelona Boat Show comes at a good time in the sector after the difficulties experienced in recent times. According to data from the National Association of Nautical Companies (ANEN), in the first eight months of the year, registrations of recreational boats have grown 9.7% over the same period last year. The largest stretches, from 12 meters, are the ones that increase their registrations more than last year, growing an average of 50%. Catalonia continues to lead the market with a rebound of 17.64%. The rent consolidates its upward trend with a 23.5% increase with Catalonia as the leader (+ 25.23%), followed by the Balearic Islands (+ 25.02%) and the Valencian Community (+ 16.85%).
For the president of the Boat Show in Barcelona, Luis Conde, “the event, an undisputed benchmark of the nautical industry in our country, consolidates its positive trend, which is in line with the recovery of the sector, after years of difficulties due to the crisis. Thanks to the trust and good response of the exhibiting companies, we celebrate an edition with more space, more offer and more novelties, so that the hall will undoubtedly reinforce its role as the best commercial platform, opportunity forum, speaker of the sector and great showcase of trends “.
More technological sailing
In this sense, exhibitors occupying more than 56,000 m2 of surface area present more than 120 novelties (about 80 in boats and about 40 in engines and electronics), which is an increase of 16% compared to 2016.
According to Luis Conde, “the commitment to technology and innovation in the sector will be key to the future of a sector that aims at the most manageable, sustainable, safe and connected ships.”
