Beyond the materials, technological accessories, equipment or benefits offered by a yacht, the exterior and interior design is key to granting this boat that distinctive and functional touch that every ship needs to be a quality option among the widest range of options presented. Therefore, here we set out to make a Top 5 of yacht designers that have become world reference for design, mainly of interiors, of luxury yachts and that have garnered prestigious awards for their great work.
The former Anglo-Iraqi architect, who received awards such as the Mies van der Rohe in 2003, the Pritzker Prize in 2004 -the first woman who won this recognition- or the Praemium Imperiale in 2009, already surprised with the creation of the exclusive speedboat Z-Boat, with an angled and asymmetric design and a structure made of fiberglass. However, it was surpassed by the so-called Unique Circle Yachts or “The circle of the exclusive yachts”, five luxury yachts that combined the protection of the underwater ecosystem with the hydrodynamic research of the development of the hull. Adriana is the owner of Monk Design since 2008, renowned in the design of car interiors for different prestigious brands such as Jaguar, Rolls-Royce or Land Rover, but also for yachts, such as the Hamilton of the WallyCento series, built under the rules of the so-called Wally box, a set of specific parameters to obtain the best performance. To give an example, the Wally rule requires that the interior occupy a minimum of 54% of the space of the hull. His contribution earned Monk the World Superyacht and the International Yacht and Aviation Award.
Director of Terence Disdale Design, this Italian stands out for the design of the interiors of the Topaz super yacht, one of the most luxurious and comfortable in the world and that has a gym, swimming pool, two Jacuzzis, conference room, cinema room and elevator, in addition to two heliports. Disdale Design opted for the concept called “beach house”, which promotes a relaxed and functional style of living the experience of sailing, avoiding the excessive formal and severe environments of a family mansion. Thus, Disdale, with Daniela Zulli at the forefront, has been overcome after more than 40 years designing yachts.
Co-owner with Anna Trillo of the MELOT+TRILLO studio, based in France and Barcelona, she has designed the interiors of the Philmi yacht, Blue Princess Star MY, Nirvana SY and the T059 MY project. For example, the interior decoration of the Philmi, which has 5 cabins that can be converted into 3 family suites and 5 dining rooms, features Swarovski crystals. In addition, thanks to these works, Melot has been a finalist and winner of numerous awards, such as the prestigious World Superyacht Award or the Prix du Design Trophy on the Monaco Yacht Show.
Co-founder of FM Architettura d’Interni with Maria Silvia Orlandini, one of her most outstanding projects was the M/Y Amore Mio 2, built in 1997 under the name of “Sea Jewel”.
In 2014 it underwent an update, it was transferred to the shipyard of Ancona of the CRN firm and a reconditioning work was undertaken that began with the isolation of the rooms, the heating systems and the total decoration of the furniture to increase his comfort. In addition, Muzio has also designed the interiors of MY Benetti, MY Paris, MY Eileen, MY Wispers and MY Grace Alone.
